Pressure reduction in fuel additives blending

Fuels are offered at service stations in different qualities. In any case, they must comply with the relevant standards, e.g. DIN EN 228 for gasoline and DIN EN 590 for diesel fuels. In their basic production, they often come from the same refinery. However, premium qualities can be produced by mixing in cleaning agents or other additives to improve or suppress certain properties.

DM 505

Additives are said to enable, for example, higher anti-knock properties, better cold-starting ability and lower release of emissions in diesel vehicles, or smoother engine running. This can have a positive effect on performance and consumption. The addition of additives with a biocidal effect prevents the occurrence of diesel plague, in which microorganisms multiply strongly in the watery portion of the diesel and form a biosludge.

Furthermore, so-called marking substances can be added as additives to help identify the origin of the fuel at a later stage.

TASK // Fuel additives blending during fuel loading

The additives contribute only a few percent to the total volume of fuel and are added at precisely defined pressures during the loading process. To ensure continuous blending, they are pumped directly to the loading station from tanks located on the refinery site. The pipeline pressure, which is higher than the pressure required for blending, is reduced on site by a DM 505 pressure reducing valve.

SOLUTION /// Pressure reducing valve DM 505

The DM 505 pressure reducing valve is a diaphragm-operated, spring-loaded proportional control valve for small flow rates. It is made of deep-drawn stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance to the various additives. Its high control accuracy prevents inaccurate dosage and associated possible changes in fuel characteristics. With its low overall height, the DM 505 is ideally suited for the limited installation space in the control unit of the dosing system in the refinery.

Depending on the conditions of the customer's plant on site, the DM 505 is also available in a version according to ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.
